Significant Case Results and Firm News

Our office just settled a case for $950,000 involving a 36 year old woman who sustained multiple orthopedic injuries in a motor vehicle collision that occurred on US 101 in December 2006. One defendant, driving a pickup, lost control during a heavy rainstorm, crossed the centerline and collided with our client. The driver of the pickup complained against the State of California, claiming a dangerous condition of public property caused pooling of water on the freeway. This case involved complex hydrology and highway design engineering issues.

ZWERDLING DIBBLE, LLP recently settled a major wrongful death suit in Santa Cruz County. Decedent, a 25 year old high school teacher who was killed in 2007 while riding his bicycle in the City of Santa Cruz by a truck making a right hand turn. The case was brought on behalf of decedent's parents. The decedent was  unmarried and had no children. The case settled for $1.5 million dollars.

Zwerdling Dibble recently settled a Humboldt County case against multiple defendants filed in 2005. Plaintiff, who was then 50 years old, suffered significant back trauma in an unusual accident. Defendants' contended lumbar symptoms were from a pre-existing condition, but agreed that cervical complaints and surgery were a resulty of the subject incident. THE CASE SETTLED FOR $1.2 MILLION

Our office recently settled a case on behalf of a 55 year old Humboldt County resident who suffered a serious right ankle trimalleolar fracture /dislocation when a log struck him at a log landing. Our client, a truck driver, was standing next to his truck, when the defendant loader operator lost control of a log, which in  turn struck our client. Medical bills were approximately $50,000 and there was some lost income. In addition the client will likely require surgery on his ankle. The case settled for $650,000.
